Master of Arts (Christian Studies) Student Article – Natan Light
Over the course of 2019, the MST & Eastern community had the privilege of supporting Stable One, a ministry that seeks to support and equip the local church to provide accommodation to those in need, particularly over the winter months. Stable One seeks to journey with each person towards stability, offering physical and spiritual care, demonstrating the love of God in real and practical ways. Stable One was founded by past MST student Jenny Willets, who felt called to serve those experiencing homelessness.
Throughout the past year, the student body hosted a number of special fundraising events including ‘soup lunches’, bake sales, and a ‘trivia night’ to raise not only funds but awareness about how the local church can better serve those who are most vulnerable in our community. We were rapt that as a community we were able to raise a grand total of $3,366.93 !!!
Over the course of winter 2019, I also had the privilege of spending some time with Stable One which was an incredibly humbling experience getting to know some of the guests and listening to their stories of resilience as they sought to take positive steps forward in their lives despite often incredibly difficult circumstances. This experience moved me greatly seeing how God was already powerfully at work in the lives of the guests as well as the impact that the local church is able to have through simply being open and warm hospitality. Thank you to all those who have contributed throughout the year to the fundraising initiatives and I would encourage you to visit the Stable One website to learn more about how the local church can contribute in practical ways to meeting the needs of those experiencing homelessness.
