All primary and secondary education specialisations are accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) using the national accreditation standards. This means that these qualifications will be accepted for school teacher registration in Victoria and all other Australian states and territories.
Students will complete 32 units (6cp each) consisting of the following:
Students will complete all 21 units in the following areas:
Students will complete 6 units in one of the following majors:
Students will complete 3 units in one of the following minors:
Students will complete 2 units in one of the following specialisations:
Students must complete integrated professional experience units/90 days of satisfactory teaching practice. They must successfully complete the Eastern College Australia’s Teaching Performance Assessment (A3TPA). Students are also required to complete professional experience orientation provided by the School of Education prior to undertaking any professional experience.
Additional government requirement
Students must complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) as part of their studies, or alternatively have recognition of First Nations language proficiency.
LANTITE should be attempted in the first year of your studies, and must be completed before your final placement. Click here for more information regarding LANTITE.
Recognition of First Nations language proficiency by the relevant cultural authority or a formal qualification in an Australian First Nations language is an acceptable alternative standard in lieu of all LANTITE requirements. Speak to a course coordinator about the process.
The College is committed to ensuring that potentially high-quality employable graduates are admitted to the College in line with State and national expectations. These high standards and the successful completion of all the studies enable students to be able to be registered by the Victorian Institute of Teaching upon successful completion of the course.
All applicants will be required to meet Eastern’s General Entry Requirements.
Current or Recent Year 12
ATAR Based Admission
Minimum ATAR required for consideration to enter in next intake 70 or equivalent in the International Baccalaureate, VCE VM (Victorian Certificate of Education – Vocational Major) or international studies.
Special Consideration
Recent year 12 graduates who did not attain 70 but whose study was affected by external factors may be admitted. Speak with our team to discuss options for study at Eastern according to our Special Consideration Policy.
VET Study
Students must have successfully completed a Certificate IV or above.
Higher Education Study
Students with previous higher education study, may be admitted to the course. The applicant must provide evidence that the qualifications held are recent and relevant and demonstrate English competency to satisfactorily complete the Bachelor of Education Primary.
Work and Life Experience
Require secondary studies demonstrating an ATAR (or equivalent) of 70 or above or Recognition of Prior Learning at a level equivalent to Certificate IV or higher. Applicants may also choose to complete Eastern College Australia’s Diploma of Arts which may give up to one year’s advanced standing into the Bachelor of Education.
All applicants will be interviewed as part of the application process. During the interview, applicants will be asked the following questions and assessed as to their suitability for entering the teaching profession.
Applicants must meet the English language requirements.
You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, whether formal or informal. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Informal learning can include on the job learning or various kinds of work and life experience. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.
